Dear PAML Families,

I’d like to start by offering a hearty congratulations to our 7th and 8th graders for a successful first dance of the school year.  Thanks to our chaperones for ensuring a safe and fun event.

This morning we were treated to our first winter weather event of the 2023-2024 school year.  Our school district makes school closure or delay decisions as thoughtfully as possible.  We typically make those decisions in the very early morning hours and communicate them well in advance of the school day by using our Bright Arrow communication system.  This system generates text, email, and phone calls.  The best way to ensure that you receive those messages is to make sure your information is up to date in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  If you need help keeping your information up to date please get in touch with the PAML Office.

I like to affectionately call this time of year “survey season.”  During the month of November we conduct 2 surveys in our building.  The first is the annual Lamoille South Climate Survey, which we conducted this past week.  This survey asks students to provide answers to questions about feelings of safety in school and social connections.  The second survey is a survey focused on substance abuse administered in partnership with Healthy Lamoille Valley (HLV).  This survey is only for 7th and 8th graders.  There is more information on the HLV survey below.  Both surveys provide critical information so that we make informed decisions regarding school improvements.  We are eager to share results and trends with you when these surveys are complete.

Finally, the winter athletic season is fast approaching.  Shortly after our Thanksgiving Break we will be kicking off opportunities for boys and girls in basketball and cross country skiing.  Please take a look at the link below and get in touch with us if you have questions regarding winter athletics.

Next week 7th and 8th graders will be taking part in the Healthy Lamoille Valley Youth Behavior Survey

Dear Parent/Caregiver,

PAML is taking part in a youth behavior survey on 11/14/23. This survey covers topics of substance use and youth assets, and is for students in grades 7 through 12. This survey provides a real time look at how our youth are thinking about substance use and what kind of risks and help they’re experiencing. The survey is designed and supported by our community partner Healthy Lamoille Valley, a substance prevention coalition serving the Lamoille Valley region. Healthy Lamoille Valley is a program of the Lamoille Family Center.

This survey is administered via school-issued tablets or laptops. Please make sure your student has their charged device at school. This survey is anonymous and survey procedures are designed to protect student privacy. Some students may find some questions to be sensitive. School guidance counselors will be available to any student who would like to make an appointment. Student login information and IP addresses are not recorded or tracked.

Participation is voluntary but it is important that all students are given the opportunity to participate in the survey so we can be sure the results are accurate. Students may opt out or skip any questions they wish. As a caregiver, you have the right to decide if your child participates. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like your student to opt out of this survey, please contact me at margo.warden@lamoillesouth.org by Monday, November 13, 2023. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Margo Warden

Winter Wellness Activity Information

I am very excited to announce that this year we will be able to add Alpine Skiing at “Smugg’s” to our list of options for our Winter Wellness Activities.  We are also planning on offering opportunities like ice skating, swimming, xc skiing, bowling, and art just like we did last year.  The dates for our Winter Wellness Program are below:

  • 1/12/24
  • 1/19/24 (no alpine skiing, students will sign-up for something else)
  • 1/29/24
  • 2/16/24

Coordinating alpine skiing is a much heavier lift than what we’ve done in the past.  We will definitely need some family members to help us lead groups and supervise students in the lodge.  We would be thrilled to have help from experienced skiers as well as non-skiers.  There is a job for everyone!  If you are interested in volunteering your time on these days please contact Dan Gilbert our Winter Wellness Activities Coordinator (dan.gilbert@lamoillesouth.org).

Please Contribute to our Title I Family Engagement Survey

We held our Title I Family Engagement Meeting this week.  So thankful for the folks that were able to attend.  We would still love your feedback even if you weren’t able to attend.  Please consider viewing the slideshow and responding to the prompts found in this link:
