Growing lifelong learners through joy, curiosity, connection & community.

Dear Stowe Elementary Families,

Can you feel the love? Happy Valentine’s Day from everyone at SES! There is so much to love about our community, students, faculty and staff. It has been a real joy watching our valentine’s wall come together and watching our community find their valentines. Be sure to ask your student about the valentine that they created and the valentine that they received.

We have two events this evening, one with the PTO at the Stowe Cinema at 4:30 and a coffee with Superintendent Ryan Heraty at 6:00 to update the community on the state of the Stowe School District budget. Keep reading the Greenletter for all the details.

Please note, school will be closed Monday, February 26- Tuesday March 5 for our February break. There are two vacation camp offerings, one with Stowe Rec and one with Spruce Peak Performing arts for families looking for childcare options. Please see the community postings below for more information.

Yours in learning,

Maura Wieler

School Safety – Fire Drill next week

As a part of our comprehensive school safety operations, safety drills are a routine way that we prepare for emergencies. Next week, we will be conducting a fire drill. Fire drills at school can be a great time to review fire safety at home. I want to thank the Stowe Fire Department for their ongoing partnership in helping to keep our school and community safe.

Budget Update – Coffee Meeting Tonight

Last week, Superintendent Ryan Heraty shared a budget update to the Stowe Community.  There is a virtual and in-person coffee talk meeting this evening at 6:00 in the Stowe Elementary School cafeteria. Here is the overview of the current status shared on February 12th.

Here is an overview of the current status:

  • Based on the level of uncertainty, the Stowe Board voted to postpone the annual meeting and budget vote. The election of board members has also been postponed in Stowe as this is a part of the annual meeting. Town votes and meetings will still occur as planned.
  • No budget adjustments have been made at this time; however the budget will be reviewed to take into account the potential tax increases that would be a result of the proposed legislation.
  • The proposed legislation is not final and still needs approval from the entire House, Senate, and the Governor. You can still have a direct impact by contacting your local legislators and telling them they need to either repeal the legislation entirely or raise the yield to an acceptable level.
  • Please share this information and consider attending the coffee talk or emailing / calling directly to learn more.

Friday Program Reminder

To keep things running smoothly for Friday Program days, we ask that all snowboards and skis are dropped off to the school no later than 8:10. The trailer leaves promptly at this time to pick up gear at the high school. If your child uses poles, they MUST be secured to the skis using a strap or a band. Please ensure that your child’s name is on their gear and be ready to share if  Mansfield or Spruce to tell staff at drop off.

Preschool Registration and Developmental Screenings

Do you have a child turning 3 or 4 by September 1, 2024? If so, we would love to hear from you! Lamoille South Supervisory Union will be hosting our developmental screening days on March 6th in Stowe and March 7th in Morrisville where you can register your child. This will be a time to meet the team of preschool teachers and visit the classrooms.  We will be screening children and talking with families about any concerns they may have. Families will also have a chance to learn more about partner programs in the area as other options for Early Education.  In order to be eligible and register for our free public early education program you need to be a resident of Stowe, Morrisville or Elmore by providing two forms of proof of residency and the child’s birth certificate. The slots for the school based preschool programs will be filled by a lottery system that we release in early April. The free public school based program runs 4 days a week, M-Th from 8:00am-1:30pm.

Please call Regina Shinners at 888-6707 ext. 1 for more information or to sign up.

If you have a participant interested, registration opens on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. The official GOTR season begins March 18th and consists of two 90 minute sessions per week. Please see Essex 5K | GOTR Vermont ( for more information and additional updates to come.

SES is also in need of Girls on the Run Coaches! The future of tomorrow’s changemakers is in YOUR hands. Our 10-week season begins the week of March 18. Our team will meet twice weekly for 90 minutes each session to connect, move, learn and have FUN! No running or coaching experience is required. Coaches are provided with comprehensive training, a curriculum that maps out each session, supplies and support from GOVT for an enriching season.
