Dear PAML Families,

We are looking forward to our 4th and final Winter Wellness activity on Friday.  We’re so grateful to have been able to enjoy this time together as a school community.  It looks like there is some weather coming in on Thursday night.  In the event that we do have a 2-hour delay on Friday we will unfortunately have to cancel and reschedule for our make-up day after February break.

I wanted to make sure that I echoed our Superintendent’s comments about our budget process as we inch closer to town meeting day.  Please consider the bullet points below.  We would love to have a great turnout for the informational meeting next week and please be sure to vote on Town Meeting Day.

There is a virtual and in-person coffee talk planned for Wednesday, February 21, at 6PM (Central Office, 46 Copley Ave). This is for anyone in the community to come and ask questions regarding our current budget process and recent legislative changes. The link is HERE and there will also be coffee available for those in attendance.

Here is an overview of the current status:

  • As noted in last week’s letter, the EMUU Board is moving forward with the annual meeting and budget vote as planned.
  • The budget that the board has proposed includes an education spending increase of approximately 7%.  This is below a 10% increase and most districts are far above that. It would be very difficult for EMUU to reduce any additional positions at this time.
  • The revised legislation was beneficial to Elmore-Morristown. The proposed changes would reduce the tax rate but Act 127 is not beneficial to any of our towns. If the new legislation passes, the tax increases are estimated to be 11% in Morristown and 18% in Elmore. These are below what the current law projects.
  • The proposed legislation is not final and still needs approval from the entire House, Senate, and the Governor. You can still have a direct impact by contacting your local legislators and telling them they need to either repeal the legislation entirely or raise the yield to an acceptable level.
  • If our budget does not pass, a revised budget would be very hard to put forward that does not have a negative impact on students.

Thank you for your continued support.

Winter Wellness Update

Thank you so much for helping us make our Winter Wellness activities a reality this year.  We’ve had a great time this season and we’re looking forward to our 4th and final Winter Wellness activity day on February 16th.

NAEP Testing

Next week we will be participating in NAEP testing with our 8th graders.  Students who have been selected at random for the test will be receiving specific communication about the test this week.  NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country.

9th Grade Transition Update

We are officially kicking off the transition to 9th grade very soon.  Your future 9th grader’s school counselor, Lindsey Yablonowski will be mailing home a letter shortly with some general information as well as a course request form.  If you have lingering questions about 9th grade transition please email Lindsey Yablonowski at

Athletic Handbook Update

We just wanted to share this update to our co-curricular handbook with everyone.  It’s something we have been working for quite some time and are now ready for implementation.  Please take a moment to review this document and review it with your student-athlete.
