Dear PAML Families,

I would like to begin this week by recognizing all of our Winter Sport Athletes and their coaches.  We wrap up our winter athletic season this week and we could not be happier with how the season went.  This evening both our 7th grade boys basketball team and our ⅞ girls team play in the finals of the Central Vermont Middle School Tournament.  Our cross country skiers also compete in the State Championship race at Craftsbury today.  We wish them luck!  I am so happy to see our basketball and cross country ski teams absolutely thriving!

Upon our return from break we will be hosting our second round of conferences here at PAML.  Please use this link to sign-up for conferences.  We will make every attempt to accommodate your needs for conferences.  If you do not see a time available or if the on-line sign-up interface is not working please call the office to schedule a conference.

Finally, Please take a look at the notes regarding our budget below.  Having our budget passed on Town Meeting Day is critical to our school district being able to begin planning for next year. Please vote on Town Meeting Day.

Here is an overview of the current budget status:

  • As noted in last week’s letter, the EMUU Board is moving forward with the annual meeting and budget vote as planned.
  • The budget that the board has proposed includes an education spending increase of approximately 7%.  This is below a 10% increase and most districts are far above that. It would be very difficult for EMUU to reduce any additional positions at this time.
  • The revised legislation was beneficial to Elmore-Morristown. The proposed changes would reduce the tax rate but Act 127 is not beneficial to any of our towns. If the new legislation passes, the tax increases are estimated to be 11% in Morristown and 18% in Elmore. These are below what the current law projects.
  • The proposed legislation is not final and still needs approval from the entire House, Senate, and the Governor. You can still have a direct impact by contacting your local legislators and telling them they need to either repeal the legislation entirely or raise the yield to an acceptable level.
  • If our budget does not pass, a revised budget would be very hard to put forward that does not have a negative impact on students.

Finally, as we head off for our February break I would like to thank our entire school community for a very successful last 8 weeks and we have a lot to be proud of!  I hope everyone has a restful break and we will see you in March!

Thank you for your continued support.

Unbound Information:

New Unbound session starts in January!

Winter_Spring 2024 Unbound Schedule.pdf

Hello Families!

We have a lot of exciting things happening in Unbound!  Here are a few updates…

The 2nd session of Swimming will start on Wednesday when we get back from break and run for 4 weeks (March 6, 13, 20, 27).  If your child is already signed up, you’re all set!  Please let me know if your child is NOT planning to attend the 2nd session so I can offer it to other students.  There is 1 slot open (maybe 2, waiting on confirmations) for anyone else interested!

River Arts is a GO!  If you’ve expressed interest on the registration form, I’ve already put you on the roster.  I will reach out to those on my list to confirm.  I think there are about 3-4 slots still open, maybe more, depending on confirmations.  It will be held on Wednesdays starting in April (3, 10, 17), then May (1, 8, 15, 22, 29).  Below is a description of the class:

Drawing, Painting, &  Printmaking

Students will take their drawing skills and layer them with painting, collage, and additional materials to make some truly unique creations! They will learn more about color mixing/color theory and how to develop a unique composition using traditional art methods and some digital art components.

Rosie’s Girls will be offered again this spring (start day/date TBD), and we’re super excited!  It will be hosted by the Morristown community center, so students will walk down to the CC with a chaperone to participate in the class.  See link below to learn more about the program.

Table Tennis is offering a couple of advanced classes to students already enrolled, so there may be an opportunity for others to join the already existing classes on Tu/Th (that were previously filled up).  I’ll know more after the break.

We’ll also have a couple more Unbound classes starting in April, stay tuned for more info on those, along with Disc Golf, Tu/Th, which starts on April 2nd.

** The rest of the Unbound classes not mentioned above will be continuing through the end of May! **

Spring isn’t too far off ~ hope to see your children in some of these great offerings!
